Hi, Welcome to Mega Monuments!
A monument is a structure made by humans which is not portable and cannot easily be moved to another location. A monument is not stored in a museum.
Examples of monuments we use today include
Church
House
Hospital

School
Wall
Statue
One of the two images above, Wall and Statue, is NOT a monument, Can you guess which one?
Archaeologists find out a lot about people who lived in the past by looking at the monuments they left behind them.
Questions we ask about an artefact can also be asked about a monument!
A What is it?
B Who made it?
C What was it made from?
D When would it have been used?
E What was it used for?
Can you answer the same questions about this monument?

What happens to archaeological monuments after they have been discovered ?
- They are measured
- Described accurately
- Photographed and planned
- Given a reference number
- Studied to see if similar ones exist elsewhere
- Protected by law
- Sometimes they are excavated to provide further information.
